Getting Started with the Doorda MCP Server

The Doorda MCP server allows you to explore connected UK property and business data through compatible AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and VS Code.

Once connected, you can ask questions in everyday language and receive data-backed answers, tables and visualisations.

    What you will need

Before getting started, make sure you have:

    • A DoordaOnline account

    • Permission to access the relevant Doorda datasets

    • The Doorda MCP server URL

    • A compatible AI client

Doorda will provide the MCP server address, which will normally follow this format:

    https://<doorda-metabase-domain>/api/metabase-mcp

    How to connect

Step 1: Open your AI client

Open the settings area of your preferred AI client and look for Connectors, Integrations or MCP servers.

The exact name may vary depending on the application.

Step 2: Add the Doorda MCP server

Choose the option to add a custom MCP server and enter the server URL provided by Doorda.

Give the connection a recognisable name, such as:

    Doorda

    Then select Connect or Authenticate.

Step 3: Sign in to Metabase

Your AI client will redirect you to the Doorda Metabase login page.

Sign in using your Metabase credentials and review the connection request. If you are happy to proceed, approve the connection.

You will then be returned to your AI client.

    Step 4: Confirm the connection

Check that the Doorda MCP server is listed as connected and enabled.

Some AI clients may ask you to approve individual tools the first time they are used. These tools allow the AI assistant to search for datasets, construct queries, retrieve results and create visualisations.

Step 5: Ask your first question

You can now ask the AI assistant to explore the Doorda data available to you.

    For example:

Show me retail properties in Birmingham with a rateable value above £100,000.

You could then continue with follow-up requests such as:

Group the results by postcode district.

Compare the average rateable value in each district.

Show the results as a bar chart.

    Which companies occupy these properties?

The AI client will use the Doorda MCP server to identify the relevant data and return the results.

    Connecting with Claude Code

Claude Code users can add the Doorda MCP server with the following command:

claude mcp add --transport http doorda \ https://<doorda-metabase-domain>/api/metabase-mcp

Replace the example address with the MCP server URL supplied by Doorda.

Start Claude Code, enter /mcp, select the Doorda server and follow the authentication instructions.

    Data access and security

Your existing Metabase permissions continue to apply when you use the Doorda MCP server.

You can only access the datasets, tables and functions that your account is authorised to use. Connecting an AI client does not provide unrestricted access to Doorda’s data.

Information returned by the Doorda MCP server may be processed by your chosen AI provider. Before connecting, make sure the AI client complies with your organisation’s privacy, security and data-retention policies.

    Troubleshooting

    If you cannot connect:

    • Confirm that you are using the complete MCP server URL.

    • Check that your Metabase username and password are correct.

    • Make sure your Doorda account has access to the required datasets.

    • Check that your AI client supports remote MCP servers.

    • Disconnect and repeat the authentication process.

    • Contact Doorda if the server is unavailable or the expected data does not appear.
