    Important Update: Household Expenditure

The lowest income decile was spending an average of £10.20 a week on Electricity according to the latest household expenditure update released by the ONS in March. We now have 5 years of data available; the next update should reflect the impact of the recent cost of living crisis making this an essential dataset to track going forward.

Note: If you are interested in the most recent energy increases, who isn’t, and have access to DoordaProperty you can view energy costs at an individual address level.

    Insights

    New Module: Predictors

Predictors are highly curated Census data that can be used to model target variables down to output area, these can be linked to postcodes as required. The Predictors are all expressed as a series of standardised ratios to the National Average for each measure, e.g. for each type of housing tenure.

These can quickly be deployed into spatial models allowing you to identify other datasets in DoordaStats which may help move your needle!

    New Datasets: Attitudes

We have added three new datasets to our Attitudes insight, these are:

Attitudinal indices – Created from non-PII data running from 1 (low) to 100 (high). The indices are uniformly spread with an equal number of Output Areas for each value. Some indices are low to high, others represent a position on a spectrum of view. These include a variety of spectrums covering views on green issues, animal rights, and political leanings.

Petition Data - Supporting petition information used in the creation of the attitudinal indices.

    New Module: DoordaSpend

Did you know Companies House paid WILLIAMS LEA LTD £2,132.14 for envelopes on the 19th April 2016?  Didn’t think so! One of our larger projects over the past year has been the acquisition of public spend data, this shows the details of invoices paid by Local Authorities and national government sourced from 1,500 publishers.

We have just under 100 million invoices linked to 400,000 UK registered companies with a total value of more than £4.7 trillion ready to be explored. This dataset is updated monthly so the numbers continue to grow. If you want to push the envelope this could be the dataset for you!

New Dataset: London Stock Exchange Tickers

You no longer need to cross-check if a company is listed on the stock exchange as we have added a new dataset which appends the LSE Id with the registered PLC company number. This covers the main market as well as AIM.

You can view the schema here

Note: If you want to build a wider view you can use the registered PLC number to link to the shareholder data to see who their subsidiaries are via the entity company number. You could even link the company numbers to the DoordaSpend module!

    Fix: Environment Agency Ledger Updates

In what may be a first for any website we’ve come across the Environment Agency reuse URLs. This relates to the notices and fines they issue to companies for breach of regulations. Despite many months of explaining why it’s not good practice for the contents of a URL to change from one day to the next they continue to do so.

Whilst there’s not a lot we can do to influence their dev team we can ramp up the refresh rate to reduce the likelihood of this happening. We now update the ledger table for the Environment Agency on 24 hourly cycle if you are sharing these links we advise you take the latest available from here.

Please note that the actual content is correct and has been verified it’s the associated URL which changes.

New Dataset: Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI)

We may live in the United Kingdom but there are a lot of foibles and regional differences when it comes to the administration of it. One of these is the fact that Northern Ireland has its own Health & Safety Executive HSENI. The data they publish is similar to, but not exactly the same as, the Health & Safety Executive for Great Britain HSEGB (England, Wales & Scotland). To ensure complete coverage for the UK we have added three new datasets for HSENI.

Note: All the data is linked to the company number so you can provide complete UK coverage by leveraging the content of all HSENI and HSEGB datasets.

    New Module: Ordnance Survey AddressBase

One of the surprisingly more confusing datasets we’ve had to work with is the Ordnance Survey AddressBase Premium. At point of delivery this is made up of over 200 tables containing 39 million addresses which need linking and cross-referencing to create a single view. Happily, our team got to grips with it and we can now offer UPRN to UDPRN lookup, exact lat/long to the letterbox and address categorisation as a new module.

As this data is sourced from the Ordnance Survey there are different licencing terms so if you want to arrange a demonstration and better understand the usage conditions, please get in touch with the commercial team.
