Visualising your data effectively in DoordaOnline is crucial for uncovering insights and making informed decisions. This guide will walk you through the various visualisation options available in DoordaOnline and how to utilise them to represent your data accurately.
Visualising Query Results
DoordaOnline offers two primary methods for creating queries:
Query Builder: A graphical interface that allows you to construct queries without writing SQL.
Native Query Editor: For users comfortable with SQL, this editor enables the creation of complex queries.
Visualising Questions in the Query Builder
When you build a question using the Query Builder:
Create Your Query: Select your data source and define the parameters of your query.
Visualise the Results: Click on the "Visualise" button located under the last step of the Query Builder. DoordaOnline will automatically choose a chart type that best fits your data.
Switch Between Views: You can toggle between the visualisation and the table of results using the "Visualisation/Editor" button in the top right corner.
Visualising Native Queries
For queries written in SQL using the Native Query Editor:
Write Your SQL Query: Input your SQL code to retrieve the desired data.
Select a Visualisation Type: Click on the "Visualisation" button at the bottom of the screen and choose the chart type that best represents your data.
Ensure that the structure of your query results aligns with the requirements of the chosen chart type.
Changing Visualisation Types
To modify how your data is presented:
Open the Visualisation Sidebar: Click on the "Visualisation" button in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Choose a Chart Type: Select from the available chart options. If a particular chart type isn't suitable for your data, it will appear in the "Other charts" section.
Customise the Chart: Each chart type offers specific settings. Click on the gear icon in the bottom-left to access and adjust these options.
Available Visualisation Types
DoordaOnline provides a variety of chart types to cater to different data representation needs:
Area Charts: Ideal for comparing the proportions of two metrics over time.
Bar Charts: Useful for displaying a number grouped by a category, such as the number of users by country.
Combo Charts: Allow the combination of bars and lines (or areas) on the same chart.
Detail View: Shows a single record in an easy-to-read, two-column display.
Funnel Charts: Commonly used to visualise stages in a process, like customer conversion rates.
Gauges: Display a single number in the context of specified coloured ranges.
Line Charts: Best for displaying trends over time.
Maps: Automatically select the best map type based on your data.
Numbers: Highlight a single number prominently.
Pie, Donut, and Sunburst Charts: Useful for showing proportions within a whole.
